The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) is offered to international students who want to pursue Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees in Korean Universities. The scholarship is aimed to provide international students with an opportunity to conduct advanced studies at higher educational institutions in Korea, to develop global leaders and strengthen Korea-friendly networks worldwide.

  • Airfare : Round-trip economy class ticket
  • Monthly Allowance : 900,000 KRW per month Research Allowance : 210,000 KRW for scholars in the field of humanities and social sciences;
  • 240,000 KRW for scholars in natural and mechanic sciences
  • Settlement Allowance:200,000 KRW upon arrival
  • Language Training Fee : Full coverage
  • Tuition : All admission fees are waived by the host institution (university)
  • The tuition is covered by NIIED and the university.
  • Dissertation Printing Costs : Reimbursement of 500,000 ~ 800,000 KRW depending on actual costs
  • Medical Insurance : 20,000 KRW per month (limited coverage)
  • Korean Proficiency Grants : 100,000 KRW per month for scholars with TOPIK Level 5 or 6

Graduate Program

Scholarship Period Master's Degree 1 year Language Courses + 2 year Degree Courses
Doctoral Degree 1 year Language Courses + 3 year Degree Courses
  1. Applicants and their parents must be citizens of the countries listed in the application guideline of the selecting year.
    * Korean citizens and Koreans holding dual citizenship are not permitted to apply for this program.
  2. Applicants must be under the age of 40 as of September 1st of the entrance year. However, applicants who qualify all conditions below are eligible to apply:
     - Must be citizens of the ODA recipient countries
     - Must be under the age of 45 as of September 1st of the entrance year
  3. Applicants must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree as of September 1st of the entrance year.
    * Applicants who have completed an undergraduate program, a master's program, or a doctoral program in Korea are not eligible to apply for the program.

More detailed information will be announced in early February 2019 by the Korean Government (NIEED).

Following is the timeline of the registration process for the 2019 KGSP program.
1. Application Period and Document Collection: For a clearer timeline, please contact the South Korean Embassy in your home country.
2. Letter / statement of recommendation to universities in South Korea: For a clearer timeline, please contact the Embassy of South Korea in your home country.
3. Selection I: Administration Phase Documents from universities in South Korea (around May 2019).
4. Selection II: Interviews and Verifications from universities in South Korea (tentative if needed, implementation around May 2019).
5. Selection III: Final Acceptance and Notification from NIIED (around June 2019).
6. Take the Korean language class (September 1, 2019 ~).
7. Prediction of the lecture period in the early fall (September 1, 2020)

* The GSIS application (Graduate School of International Studies) can only be done if you get a recommendation from the South Korean Embassy in your home country.
* Legged application collection is sent to the address of the South Korean Embassy in your home country (specifically for applications from China must be addressed to the Minister of Education of China).
* Applicants can join this program through the embassy or university they want to go to.
* Double registration is not accepted. The global MBA program is not included in KGSP.
