[Bachelor and Master Degree] Summer Workshop 2019 in USA: Social Innovation and Financial Inclusion in the Digital Age, US


The Banco Santander Georgetown University Partnership on Social Economy is accepting applications from students interested in participating in a two-week, multi-disciplinary workshop. The workshop will examine key trends affecting social and economic inclusion and ask participants to develop innovative approaches and creative solution

Students should expect an interactive and practical learning environment that draws on real-world applications of innovation in addition to classroom-based lectures. Students will gain exposure to policy and practice by connecting to a network of researchers, practitioners, financiers, and policymakers. Cultural activities will complement the learning goals of the seminars and allow participants to explore Washington, D.C.
Additional information

Students will learn from thought leaders representing diverse institutional perspectives, including academia, policymaking, non-profits, and private enterprise. Within this framework, students will work collaboratively to identify potential technological, commercial, and policy innovations designed to increase access to the financial sector as well as related economic, health, and education resources and opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to present their conclusions to a panel of executives at the conclusion of the workshop

Benefits:
The Georgetown University Santander Partnership will cover the workshop costs, room and half board (breakfast and lunch on weekdays). The student is responsible for air and ground transportation to Georgetown University and travel medical insurance, which is required to participate. In addition, the Partnership will provide logistical assistance and instructions for the visa-application process, if necessary, as well as the requirements for health insurance while participating in the workshop.
Requirement:
  • Undergraduate and graduate students from the Santander Universities Network. A diverse cohort is desired, drawing students from the social sciences, history, law, business, technology, engineering, computer science, biomedical sciences, and physical sciences;
  • Fluent in English, both speaking and writing
  • 21 years of age by the start of the workshop
  • Eligible for a tourist visa to the United States
Georgetown will select the applicants based on academic criteria, English level and attached documentation. Eligible Regions: Open for All.
How to Apply:
Nominations should submit through www.santander-grants.com by 11:59 pm EST time, March 18th, 2019.
The application must include:
  • The candidate’s Resume/Curriculum Vitae, including current email address, level of English, and previous as well as the current course(s) of study, with anticipated completion dates.
  • An essay (in English) not to exceed 500 words, on the following topic: In every society, there are challenges that relate to inclusion for marginalized groups. They have limited access to opportunities related to health, education, and economic empowerment. Describe an example of a challenge of limited social inclusion that you have observed, and discuss a practical, simple idea that holds promise for addressing the challenge. Your solution should address the role of digital technology (if any).
  • One letter of recommendation in English from a university professor who has taught the applicant.
