This specialization is aimed at learners who are interested in exploring the Russian language, and provides everything you need to start this journey. This specialization contains four courses, and begins with an introduction to the basics of the Russian alphabet and phonetics, which will be vital for you as you progress in your studies. All four courses provide extensive theoretical and practical materials, and supply listening, reading, and vocabulary exercises to enhance the learning process. Grammar materials will cover parts of speech, case system, verb conjugation, and sentence structure.

Upon completion of the specialization, learners will be well-versed in the basic theories and rules of Russian phonetics and grammar; will acquire basic conversation vocabulary; be able to read simple texts; and hold conversation on everyday topics such as family, travel, hobbies, personal activities, and holidays.

  • Course1
    Russian Alphabet
    • Russian is considered to be one of the world's most difficult languages. This course is aimed at helping those who are interested in understanding the basics of the Russian language, and preparing learners to further their language acquisition.
    • Upon completion of the course students will have learned: the structure of Russian alphabet; how to write and read in Russian; how to pronounce Russian words; and recognise particular sounds and words in speech. After completing the course learners can continue to explore the language on Russian for Beginners 1. The course contains extensive video and audio materials on the basics of Russian phonetics. More than 150 exercises are provided for the learners to apply the knowledge they will learn on the course.
  • Course2
    Russian for beginners 1. Русский язык: A1
    • Russian is considered to be one of the world's most difficult languages. This course is aimed at helping those who are interested in understanding the basics of Russian language. Every unit of the course consists of several parts explaining vocabulary, phonetics (pronunciation), grammar, and provides examples of simple dialogues in Russian.
    • Upon completion of the course students will have learned: the structure of simple narrative and interrogative sentences; the formation of Russian names; the three genders of nouns; the difference between Russian adjectives and adverbs, and their uses; the use of verbs in the Present and Past tense as well as their conjugation. The course contains more than 100 new words and conversational phrases providing the learner with a basic vocabulary for everyday communication.
  • Course3
    Russian for beginners 2. Русский язык A1
    • Russian is considered to be one of the world's most difficult languages. This course aimed at helping those who are interested in understanding the Russian language. Every unit of the course consists of several parts explaining vocabulary, phonetics (pronunciation), grammar, and provides examples of simple dialogues in Russian. Russian for Beginners 2 continues to explain the basics of Russian to those who have already completed the first part of the course (Russian for Beginners 1).
    • Upon completion of the course students will have learned: the main Russian verbs of movement as well as their conjugation in the Past, Present and Future tense; the formation of Genitive, Dative and Prepositional case of Russian nouns, pronouns and adjectives; the formation of cardinal and ordinal numerals. The course contains more than 150 new words and conversational phrases providing the learner with a basic vocabulary for everyday communication on such topics as shopping, traveling, life in a city and personal activities.
  • Course4
    Russian for beginners 3. Русский язык: A1
    • Russian is considered to be one of the world's most difficult languages. This course aimed at helping those who are interested in understanding the Russian language. Every unit of the course consists of several parts explaining vocabulary, phonetics (pronunciation), grammar, and provides examples of simple dialogues in Russian. Russian for Beginners 3 continues to explain the basics of Russian to those who have already completed the previous two parts of the course as well as the introduction to the Russian alphabet.
    • Upon completion of the course students will have learned: Russian verbs which indicate the object`s location; the verbs заниматься, интересоваться, поздравлять, желать and their conjugation in the Past, Present and Future tense; the formation and use of Instrumental and Prepositional case of Russian nouns, pronouns and adjectives; the formation of the Imperative; the use of Genitive, Dative and Accusative case in different types of conversational phrases. The course contains more than 100 new words and conversational phrases providing the learner with a basic vocabulary for everyday communication on such topics as housing, hobbies an interests, holidays and congratulations, as well as the vocabulary which can be used when going to someone’s house. More than 150 exercises are provided for the learners to apply the knowledge they will learn on the course.
