Korean Language & Electives in English Korea University, South Korea

In this academic program at Korea University, you will get the opportunity to not only experience many aspects of Korean language and culture but continue with your academic plan by taking two courses. You will also have an option to add the 3rd course for an additional charge.

Courses are offered in a wide range of subjects including business, economics, fine art & design, humanities, science, law, politics, and international relations as well as Korean language and East Asian Studies.

Each class offers a full semester of coursework condensed into six weeks of intensive study totaling 48 contact hours. You will be in class from Monday through Thursday with other international and ISA students. To get the most out of your time abroad, on Fridays and weekends, you will participate in cultural activities and excursions organized by Korea University or ISA.

  • Minimum GPA :Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50.
  • Minimum Admissions Prerequisites: 
    • There is no language prerequisite for this program.
    • GAP students are eligible to participate.

  • COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT(S)
    • One official copy from each college/university attended. Please note that if you already submitted an official transcript with your ISA program application, then you will not need to submit another one. 
  • ESSAY (UNDER 400 WORDS AND NO MORE THAN ONE PAGE).
    • Applicants must answer the following: “Describe an experience from your past that greatly impacted your life.  How did this occurrence help shape the person you are today?  What expectations do you have for your study abroadexperience and in what way do you think this experience will affect your life?” Please keep under 400 words and nomore than one page.
  • SUPPLEMENTAL ESSAY, IF APPLICABLE (UNDER 150 WORDS PER APPLICABLE PROMPT, ON A SEPARATE PAGE) 
    • In addition to the required essay above, Diversity and Live Like Ally scholarship applicants must include an additional statement of 250 words or fewer in response to the following prompt(s). If completing both prompts, they may be combined on one page, but must be separate from the main essay: 
    • DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP STATEMENT
      • This scholarship is intended to benefit students from backgrounds of underserved populations which includes, but is not limited to, underrepresented races, ethnic origins, sexual orientations, gender identities, as well as first-generation college students and those with accessibility needs.    Describe your unique identities and explain how engaging with these identities through a different culture lens will contribute to your personal and academic goals
    • LIVE LIKE ALLY SCHOLARSHIP STATEMENT 
      • Ally Willen strived to live life to the fullest, embracing the mantra “Think higher, feel deeper” through her volunteer work, love for the outdoors, and inspiring attitude. Discuss how you “Live Like Ally” in your own daily life.  
  • RESUME (ONE PAGE)
    • Your resume must describe your extracurricular activities and/or work experience. Resumes must be kept to a one  page maximum. Resumes that exceed more than one page will not be reviewed.  
  • SUPPORTING FINANCIAL AID DOCUMENTS, IF APPLICABLE
    • If you are applying to a scholarship that requires financial aid documentation, you must include the following items from the most recent term that they are available: 
      • Student Aid Report (SAR) – Not the VOA form from ISA. VIEW AND PRINT YOUR SAR FROM FAFSA.ED.GOV
      • Home University Award Letter/Form 
      • Non-US students must provide equivalent official documentation demonstrating financial need.
Recipient Responsibility and Benefit:
  • Scholarship recipients, no matter the dollar figure awarded, are expected to remain in good academic standing during their study abroad program and to respect the laws and rules of the host country and host university. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in the retraction of the scholarship award. 
How To Apply:
  • Only one scholarship application needs to be submitted, regardless of which scholarships are being applied for.
  • At the top of the application, be sure you meet the requirements and check off each scholarship you would like to be considered for. If applying for a host university scholarship, indicate which host university in the space provided. 
  • Applicants who do not meet the eligibility requirements will not be considered for a scholarship; therefore it is important that all applicants check the above requirements before applying.  
  • Applications must be submitted via mail and must be RECEIVED at the ISA Headquarters by the scholarship deadline.
