[Master and PhD Degree] KAIST International Student Scholarship 2019, South Korea



KAIST (formally the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) is a national research university located in Daedeok Innopolis, Daejeon, South Korea. KAIST was established by the Korean government, with the help of American policymakers, in 1971 as the nation's first research-oriented science and engineering institution. KAIST also has been internationally accredited in business education, and hosting the Secretariat of AAPBS. KAIST has approximately 10,200 full-time students and 1,140 faculty researchers and had a total budget of US$765 million in 2013, of which US$459 million was from research contracts.
From 1980 to 2008, the institute was known as the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. In 2008, the name was shortened to "KAIST".
In 2007, KAIST partnered with international institutions and adopted dual degree programs for its students. Its partner institutions include the Technical University of Denmark, Carnegie Mellon University, the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), the Technical University of Berlin, and the Technical University of Munich.

 Benefit:
  • Full tuition fee: tuition exemption for 4 semesters (MS) / 8 semesters (PhD)
  • Living expenses: 350,000 KRW/1 month (for MS) or 400,000 KRW/1 month (for PhD)

 Requirement:
  • Students must maintain GPA over 2.0 out of 4.3 at KAIST
  • GPA requirement of Seoul campus may be different from the above requirement.
  • International applicants must not have citizenship of Korea. Korean citizens who hold dual citizenship are not eligible to apply as international students.
  • International candidates must meet ALL of the following requirements:
    • He or she holds or will hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree (for doctoral applicant) or,
      he or she holds or will hold a bachelor’s degree(for master’s applicant).
    • He or she is not a citizen of Korea.
Note: International applicant whose parents were born in Korea MUST read the instructions below.
International applicants of Korean ethnicity, regardless of birthplace, MUST additionally satisfy ONE of the following two requirements.
Neither of the applicant’s parents are not citizens of Korea or;
The applicant must have received his/her entire elementary, junior high, and high school education outside of Korea at the comparable and equivalent level of those provided in Korea (for master’s applicants) or, he or she received entire elementary, junior high, high school, and undergraduate education outside of Korea and also received a master’s degree in or outside of Korea at the comparable and equivalent level of those provided in Korea (for doctoral applicants). In this case, international schools located in Korea are not acknowledged as foreign schools. Applicants of Korean ethnicity who completed their entire education (elementary, junior high, high school, and undergraduate) outside of Korea should submit the Certificate of the Facts Concerning the Entry & Exit issued by the Korean Immigration Office. The certificate should have been issued recently.
Note: International students of Korean ethnicity who do not meet at least one of the conditions above CANNOT apply for International Admissions. Instead, they must apply for Korean Admissions.(http://admission.kaist.ac.kr/graduate/)

  • CREATE your application account. Make sure to write your email address that is most frequently used.
  • ADD advanced adm@kaist.ac.kr to your email address book or safe senders list.
  • LOGIN at https://apply.kaist.ac.kr/InterGradApply/ with your application account.
  • WRITE application online and save the information.
  • SELECT financial resource online
  • PRINT the completed application form
  • SUBMIT all required documents via post ahead of deadline. Express mail may take one week or more to reach our office.
