[High School and Bachelor Student] The 2019 Asian English Olympics in Indonesia


The Asian English Olympics (AEO) is one of the biggest English Olympics in Asia with over 650 participants from 11 Asian countries last year. AEO is an English Olympics held by BINUS English Club (BNEC), an English club under BINUS University in Jakarta, Indonesia. AEO has eight fields of competitions, six of them offline and two of them online. The six offline competitions are Debate, Speech, Newscasting, Storytelling, Scrabble and Spelling Bee. The online competitions are Radio Drama and Short Story Writing.

English Olympics is one of BNEC’s most prestigious events. They have been conducting this event since 2004, starting with the Nationwide English Olympics for 6 years. It then developed into 1 year of Southeast Asian English Olympics, and lastly 7 years of Asian English Olympics with more than 500 participants from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Hong Kong, Macau, India, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia, and South Korea.

They started from Nationwide English Olympics, and have managed to develop our English Competition into an Asian-scaled competition, Asian English Olympics. Around 700 participants from 13 countries all around Asia had participated in 2018 Asian English Olympics, competed in eight fields of competitions such as, Debate, Speech, Storytelling, Newscasting, Spelling Bee, Scrabble, Short Story Writing, and Radio Drama. They also give meaningful experiences to be remembered and broadening the networking of the participants across Asia.

The 2019 AEO will be held on February 11-16, 2019. There will also be the “Institutional Champion” title for participating institutions. Points of every delegates who win in each field of AEO will be accumulated, whichever institution gathered the most points will be crowned for the title.

Terms and Condition:
  • Each institution must only fill and submit registration form from 1 PIC (Person in Charge)
  • Students will be eligible to participate in The 2019 Asian English Olympics if they are enrolled in secondary school/high school (10th grade or above) or are enrolled in university. Students who are eligible to take part at the beginning of the competition will be eligible to participate until the end of the competition. The PIC of each institution will be responsible for this provision.
  • Each institution can only send a maximum of 3 people or teams per field of competition. 
  • Each participant may join both main competition and online competition, because the online will be run in different timeline from the main competition. 
  • The teacher/representative of the institution can accompany their students during Asian English Olympics and will not be charged, but they will not get the privilege to observe or watch the competition. If they want to observe and watch a certain competition, they should register themselves as an observer. The observer’s fee is IDR 400.000 / person. (Observer is a person who does not participate in the competition as a participant, but is allowed to observe the activities and get the same privileges as the participants: food, transportation, and certificate) 
  • Past champions of the Asian English Olympics are not allowed to join the same competition field they won before. But, they are allowed to join other fields of competition.

There are 2 types of payment, which are Payment for National and International Participants.

    Registration Form and accommodation form.
  • STEP 2: Fill the form
    If you didn’t’ fill the form completely, the committee will contact you and ask you to complete the form first before proceeding to the next step.
  • STEP 3: Submit the form
    Don’t forget to double check the form before you submit it to one of our contact person.
  • STEP 4: Complete the payment
    After the form has been submitted, the committee will tell you the total amount you have to pay. Please confirm to the committee before and after you complete the payment to make sure the total amount you would like to transfer is right.
