[Master and PhD Degree] GIST Scholarship - Graduate Admissions for Fall 2022, South Korea (Fully Funded)




The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) is a research-oriented university and the one of the prestigious school in the science and technology. GIST is located in Gwangju, South Korea. Also, GIST is the member of the schools of the union with respect to the research-oriented universities group consisting of GIST-KAIST-UNIST-POSTECH-DGIST

Participants of the Program will be assigned to specific laboratories and receive their research training under the supervision of the professors in charge of the laboratories. More information about the participating laboratories can be obtained from the GIST website (www.gist.ac.kr).
Applicants should indicate in their applications the laboratories they want to be assigned to in the
order of preference.

Financial Support:

  • Tuition Assistance (All students)
    • Tuition fully supported: 3,415,000 won per semester
    • ※ The one-time matriculation fee of 680,000 won is charged to all newly admitted students to be enrolled. Some students may be exempt from this fee.
  • Monthly Stipends (All International Students)
    • Student allowance: 140,000 won per month for M.S. students, 295,000 won per month for Ph.D. students
    • Meal allowance: nearly 100,000 won per month
      ※Students should have completed at least 9 credits in the previous semester for the above two.
    • International student allowance: 120,000 won per month
      ※ GPA of 3.0 or higher (out of 4.5) in the previous semester
  • Research Assistantship
    (All students participating in research projects) Average as of 2019
    • 4,785,384 won per year of M.S.
    • 12,263,262 won per year of Ph.D
  • Housing (All Students)
  • Health Insurance (All International Students)
    • 80% of the private health insuarance is supported.
    • ※Other options may exist.
    • Annual medical checkup
  • Flight Reimbursement (All Incoming International Students)
    • Reimbursement for a one-way flight to Korea
      ※For the first time use only.

  • (Upload) Original or notarized official degree certificates(or Certificate of Enrollment) for all undergraduate and graduate
  • (Upload) Original or notarized official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate
    • (Upload) Two letters of recommendation on the prescribed form will be acceptable.
      ※ Only this form will be acceptable for two letters of recommendation.  
    • Only for GIST graduates who apply for Ph. D. program to the same academic advisor, the recommendation letters can be replaced with ‘Confirmation Certificate for Ph. D. Applicant’ 
  • (Upload) A certificate of English language proficiency issued by your home university or An official score report of the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC or TEPS
    • Minimum scores: 80(TOEFL iBT), 6.5(Academic IELTS), 750(TOEIC), 600(TEPS), 327(NEW TEPS).
    • Tests must be taken within two years before the deadline date.
    • Only original copies will be accepted.
    • For IELTS only, photocopies will be accepted.
    • Our institution code for ETS is 0144.

How to Apply:
  • Step 1
    • Submit the online application
    • Choose your field of study and complete all relevant sections of the online application form. The online application form is accessible at: Service Link
  • Step 2
    • Send all required documents by mail to GIST Admissions
    • The International Admissions Coordinator will contact you when all the required documents of your application have received. Service Link
  • Step 3
    • Notification of the admissions results
    • A notification of results will be sent to the email address provided on or around June 15 for Fall admission and November 30 for Spring admission to those applicants whose documents have been received by the specified deadlines. Admitted candidates are expected to respond to the offers of admission within 15 days of notification.
  • Step 4
    • Completion of enrollment requires the reception of documents and paying the Matriculation Fee.
    • If you have decided to accept the offer of admission, you should enroll at GIST within the deadline provided. Upon enrollment, you will receive the admission packet: Certificate of Admission, Certificate of Financial Sponsorship, and a Letter of Invitation
  • Step 5
    • Apply for a student visa.
    • In order to apply for a student visa, you will need to obtain a student visa application form. This form is available at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in your home country. When you apply for a visa, you must attach the Certificate of Admission to the application form. After you receive your visa, you can contact the staff at the Section of International Cooperation(SIC) and the staff at your school or department. The staff of both departments will assist in arranging your travel to Korea.
