COINS Grand Challenge 2019 – Win Cash Prizes, Grants and More


Could your idea improve the construction industry or the built environment? The 2019 COINS Grand Challenge is an opportunity to win funding, business support and more. The COINS Grand Challenge is a global competition to uncover innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders with ideas that can improve the built environment.

This global competition is organized by Construction Industry Solutions Ltd (COINS)to support innovation within the construction industry. Open to anyone with ideas to improve construction – from reducing costs, increasing efficiency, improving sustainability, safety, quality or compliance throughout the built life cycle.

The challenge has two entry categories, undergraduate (Student Competition) and professional (Open Competition).

Last year’s student competition was won by Armelle Coutant, a student from Stanford University, USA, with her idea for bio-integrated marine construction. Last year, 11 finalists represented 7 countries and a wide variety of ideas. The 2019 COINS Grand Challenge is now open for entries, with the deadline entries being 12 April.

Construction Industry Solutions (COINS) has been providing business software and services to the construction, engineering, home building and service sectors for more than 30 years. Their global team has accumulated over 4,000 man-years of unrivaled, incremental industry knowledge that they put at the service of their clients.

  • Two special discretionary prizes for the most promising software-related submissions. The winner will receive a 3-month internship and the runner up a 2-week work experience placement with COINS research and development to further develop their ideas
  • A discretionary COINS Investment Prize for what COINS considers to be the most promising idea or business. The winner of the COINS Investment Prize will be offered an investment of up to £115,000 GBP (c. $150,000 USD) in their business or to set up a business in order to further their idea
Requirement:
  • The idea must meet all the requirements for submission detailed in the Guidance Notes and the Terms & Conditions.
  • The applicant must present a clear case for how their idea will address the competition topic.
  • The applicant must speak English fluently.
  • The applicant must be 18 years of age or older on 1st September 2018.
  • The applicant must be able to attend the Grand Final in Manchester, UK on Wednesday 12 June 2019.
  • The applicant must be able to obtain legal entry to the United Kingdom for judging if selected as a finalist.
  • The idea must be able to be applied to the construction industry.
