European Forum Alpbach Scholarship Programme 2020 in Alpbach, Austria (Full and Partial Scholarship)



Every year, 700 students from about 90 nationalities participate as scholarship holders in the European Forum Alpbach. Join smart minds from around the world in a charming Alpine village, immersing yourself in an environment bursting with novel ideas, new ways of thinking and opportunities for making great contacts.

With the Alpbach scholarship programme, young people under 30 can attend this leading interdisciplinary conference and a variety of academic seminars. A basic scholarship covers the participation fee to all events at the European Forum Alpbach. Additional subsidies are available for accommodation and daily allowances.

Scholarship Type

  • First-Time Scholarships

    There are the 3 first-time scholarship types:
    • 1. Basic Scholarship
      This scholarship covers:
      • a) participation fee (EUR 1600,00) to the European Forum Alpbach
    • 2. Partial Scholarship
      This scholarship covers:
      • a) participation fee (EUR 1600,00) to the European Forum Alpbach
      • b) accommodation (EUR 30,00 per day) during your stay at the European Forum Alpbach**
      • *Please note that the partial and full scholarships can only be granted upon availability of funds.
      • ** Additional Requirement for Partial and Full Scholarships: Proof of insufficient funds to cover the stay in Alpbach. A written statement or a proof of state subsidy will suffice.
    • 3. Full Scholarship
      This scholarship covers:
      • a) participation fee (EUR 1600,00) to the European Forum Alpbach
      • b) accommodation (EUR 30,00 per day) during your stay at the European Forum Alpbach**
      • c) board allowance (EUR 17,00 per day) during your stay at the European Forum Alpbach**
      • *Please note that the partial and full scholarships can only be granted upon availability of funds.
      • ** Additional Requirement for Partial and Full Scholarships: Proof of insufficient funds to cover the stay in Alpbach. A written statement or a proof of state subsidy will suffice.

  • Returner Scholarships
    Have you already been to Alpbach with a scholarship and would like to come back? There are 2 returner scholarship types:
    • 1. Alpbach Buddy Scholarship
      If you apply for an Alpbach Buddy Scholarship, you will support first-timer scholarship holders and the EFA Foundation’s organising team.

      This scholarship covers:
      • a) participation fee (EUR 1600,00) to the European Forum Alpbach
      • b) accommodation (EUR 30,00 per day) during your stay at the European Forum Alpbach
      • c) board allowance (EUR 17,00 per day) during your stay at the European Forum Alpbach
    • 2. Seminar Assistant Scholarship
      You can apply as a seminar assistant and support the Seminar Chairs during the Seminar Week as well as during the rest of the Forum.
      Please read carefully through the Seminar Assistants Infosheet before applying for this scholarship!
      This scholarship covers:
      • a) participation fee (EUR 1600,00) to the European Forum Alpbach
      • b) accommodation (EUR 30,00 per day) during your stay at the European Forum Alpbach
      • c) board allowance (EUR 17,00 per day) during your stay at the European Forum Alpbach
  • Please Note: Because they receive a “Full Scholarship”, Seminar Assistants are required to be available and ready to help with organisational matters related to the Seminar Week throughout the whole Forum (even after the end of the Seminar Week). This includes but is not limited to: help in the organisation of workshops during the different Symposia, organisational help related to the Seminar Week.
  • The types of scholarships that are assigned to finalists cannot be contested.
Requirement:
  • Aged between 18 to 30 years
  • Open to registrants from various countries, except Austria, Taiwan or China (can register in other programs by EFA)
  • Fluent in English, at least level B2
  • Preferably have been involved in non-profit organizations or volunteered
  • Have a high curiosity and love to discuss about various fields
  • Active in the community, preferably having been involved in NGOs, cultural projects, or other initiatives in the civil or political fields
  • Be present for at least 12 days at EFA
  • Show proof of lack of housing funds while at Alpbach (for applicants for Full and Partial scholarships)
