 In Japan, many scholarships have been provided for international students from various organizations.
However, the qualifications and amounts greatly differ among them. Most of the scholarships are intended for international students studying at universities and colleges in Japan. 1.  The University of Tokyo - PEAK Program 2021


 
 
The University of Tokyo’s Programs in English at Komaba (PEAK) seek to admit a select number of students who exhibit intellectual curiosity and the potential for leadership. In line with the university’s initiative to establish an international campus and nurture global citizens, students are also selected according to their ability to contribute to the diversification of the campus with their cultural experiences and educational backgrounds.
 
PEAK consists of the International Program on Japan in East Asia and the International Program on Environmental Sciences. The aim of these undergraduate degree programs is to share the rich intellectual and educational resources of the university with the wider global community. All classes are taught in English, but students also have the opportunity to study Japanese language during their studies.
 
Students admitted to the Environmental Sciences Program study this complex field from an interdisciplinary perspective, which include the environmental, economic, ethical and legal. They also learn about biodiversity conservation, geochemical cycling, geophysics and the latest environmental technologies from an advanced scientific and engineering perspective. The primary aim of the program is to nurture well-rounded environmental specialists who can design and implement integrated approaches to current and future environmental concerns.

2.  {Bachelor) Kyoto University of Advanced Science Undergraduate Program Scholarship 2021
 

One of the founding principles of Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) is that education should foster "first-class graduates capable of identifying and resolving issues critical to leading society into the future." To this end, KUAS seeks applicants who understand the scope of subjects taught by the Faculty or Department of their choice and who desire to deepen their knowledge, further their skills, and acquire the education necessary to make positive contributions to global society.

The Faculty of Engineering seeks applicants who feel motivated by our mission and objectives. Applicants are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of mathematics and physics at the high school level, the ability to think about those subjects logically, and to have basic English communication skills.

4. Yokohama National University – MEXT Japanese Government Scholarship 2021 (UR)
 


Two MEXT scholarships for the master's course and five for the doctoral course are going to be allocated every year to "Civil and Development" program. Four MEXT scholarships for the doctoral course are allocated every year to "Civil and ICT/IoT" program. The candidates who wish to receive the MEXT scholarship allocated to this program can only apply for October enrollment.

5. Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University MEXT Scholarship (University Recommendation) Scholarship 2021


To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must first apply to APU. APU will then select eligible candidates to recommend to the scholarship organization.

This scholarship is awarded to outstanding international students who are recommended by APU. The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) provides this scholarship with the aim of enhancing the international competitiveness and promoting the active exchange of international students in Japanese universities.

 6. Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) at Tokyo University
 
 
ADB-JSP, financed by the Government of Japan and organized by the Asian Development Bank, aims to provide an opportunity citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies. The Division of Environmental Studies which is consisted of six departments, and the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science at the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) have been designated by ADB to receive allocation with the ADB-JSP scholarship since 2000.

9. MEXT Scholarship at Hokkaido University (e3 Program) Scholarship 2021, Japan (Fully Funded)



The application starts with screening and selection for the scholarship. Applicants are expected to be academically excellent and strongly motivated to conduct Master or Doctoral level research at one of laboratories at e3 program. The candidates who passed the first screening (document screening and interview with a prospective supervisor) will proceed to the second screening (interview with nomination committee) and be asked to submit additional documents to complete the procedure. Applicants who are nominated for the scholarship must subsequently apply for admission to the e3 program, the Graduate School of Engineering. (Caution: MEXT Scholarship application and admission of the Graduate School of Engineering are separate procedures.)

This scholarship was established at APU after the university was selected for the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Top Global University Project (SGU). Universities selected for this project can provide this scholarship to outstanding international students with excellent academic performance. The scholarship also aims to enhance the international competitiveness of Japanese universities.

11.  The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) 2020-21, Japan (Fully Funded)


The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) supports graduate studies in macroeconomics or related fields in leading universities in Japan. It provides educational opportunities to promising junior officials from central banks, ministries of finance and other economic agencies in the Asia-Pacific region, aiming to build their capacity in economic policymaking to support sustainable growth and development in their own countries and the region.
The program was first introduced in 1993,and is funded by the Government of Japan and administered by the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
More than 700 officials have graduated since its inception, and many alumni play a key role in policymaking in their countries.

12. Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) at Keio University, Japan (Fully Funded) 
 


The Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies in development-related fields. Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries. 

This scholarship is for students who is admitted to the Master’s Program at Keio University and agree to return to their home country (listed here ) immediately after completing the Master's program. At least two years of full-time professional work experience prior to application is required.

The Integrated Science Program (ISP) is a cross-disciplinary educational program for international students interested in pursuing a degree in sciences. The program fundamentally consists of a four-year Bachelor’s degree and a two-year Master’s degree.
